Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

A Thankful Weekend

I'm thankful that it's the weekend. I only wish that it weren't going to end so quickly. Three days is never enough, and this weekend I only have two days for the weekend, so I'm thankful for every moment of it.

I'm thankful that Aaron and I could learn how to can green beans this weekend. I'm thankful that Illinois has the best sweet corn on the planet. We DO NOT miss Virginia corn. We actually boycotted corn while we were there because well...it's just awful. I think they may have been eating field corn...yuck. But anyway...

I'm thankful for the rain that came to cool everything off after a few long hot summer days, and I'm thankful that on rainy days it's okay to sit on the couch and watch movies, nap, eat lots of junk food, and just be lazy. The rain makes you feel like it's "okay" to be lazy...which I love.

I'm thankful for so many other things, but this weekend I'm especially thankful for my amazing husband who rode right by my side on his bike while I ran my 14 miler this weekend. I was thankful for him being there every single step to encourage me, distract me when I was feeling like I couldn't finish, hand me water when I was thirsty...and just plain be there. Marathon training can be so hard sometimes, and he made that milestone in my training that much easier. I love him...and I'm so thankful for him.

Our Sixth Anniversary

Our anniversary kind of snuck up on us this year. We had talked and talked about doing something for our anniversary, and we just kept getting busy and never got around to planning anything. We had wanted to go away for the weekend, but Aaron was on call at the courthouse. For that reason, we had to be within a short distance from home so that he could come back if he got a phone call. All that being said, we decided to go to Galena for the day.

After the past couple weeks of go-go-go in our household, we really just wanted to relax and just not have to worry about meeting friends or family somewhere or doing work around the house. We've had an exhausting last couple of weeks, and we just wanted to enjoy a slow paced day together with no interruptions. Galena holds a special place in our hearts anyway because we got engaged in Galena 7 years ago. We couldn't go to the lookout tower because it's no longer open, but we were able to enjoy some time in the downtown area of Galena and eat dinner at Vinny Vinnucchi's (where we went the night of our engagement). And then afterwards, we went to Grant Park. We had a great time. It was a much needed break.

It's hard to believe it's been six years already. So much has happened in six years...

We've lived in three states. We've moved six times. We've seen friends and family have babies and get married. We've seen friends and family get divorced and pass away. We've had a lot of special moments and a few sad moments mixed in there too, but we've grown so much over the past six years...we wouldn't trade it for anything. Our prayer is that we continue to grow more and more over our lifetime together...closer to God and closer to each other. I'm sure I'm a little biased in saying this, but I really do think I have the best marriage ever. I married my best friend and a true man of God...what else is there to ask for?

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

This week I got to be a part of VBS at our church. It was a blast!! I led games for the little ones at VBS, and it was a lot of fun playing with the kids and teaching them about Jesus. I had several groups of kids rotate through my station each day, but I picked a favorite group...just because I can...and I told my favorite group every day that they were my favorite group. I miss them already, and I'm already looking forward to next year. We had a lot of fun!
